The linked pages were checked for possible legal violations when the link was set; no legal violations were apparent at that time. Privacy policy
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing on this website within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is Prof. Dr. Holger Glasmachers, Dürerstraße 34, 44795 Bochum, Germany, email: holger.glasmachers@hshl.de.
2. Visiting the website and server log files
The website is hosted by STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany (host). A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR has been concluded with STRATO.
When a page is accessed, your browser transmits data to the server for technical reasons. The host stores this data in server log files:
- IP address – anonymised only: STRATO converts part of the address into a hash value; an anonymised address is valid for at most 24 hours
- date and time of access
- page or file accessed and amount of data transferred
- previously visited page (referrer), browser and operating system
The purpose is the secure and trouble-free delivery of the website. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; the legitimate interest lies in the technical operation and in preventing misuse. The log files are deleted after six weeks. They are not evaluated for other purposes or combined with other data.
3. No cookies, no analytics, no advertising
This website does not set any cookies for visitors. There are no visitor statistics, no tracking, no advertising and no social media plug-ins. Fonts, formula rendering (KaTeX) and all scripts are loaded from the website’s own server.
Storage in the browser: So that the website remembers your choices (e.g. the course selected last, expanded or collapsed sections), it stores small entries in your browser’s local storage (localStorage). These entries contain no personal data, are not transmitted to the server and can be deleted at any time in the browser settings. This storage is strictly necessary for the function you requested (§ 25 (2) No. 2 TDDDG).
4. Area for lecturers
Lecturers can log in to the “Dozent” area with a password in order to release model solutions. Only for this purpose is a technically necessary session cookie (“pg_dozent”) set after login; it expires when the browser is closed or after at most two hours of inactivity. To protect against password guessing, failed attempts are recorded as an irreversible hash value of the IP address together with the time and number of failed attempts; after five failed attempts, login is blocked for 15 minutes. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (protection of access) and § 25 (2) No. 2 TDDDG.
5. Videos
Own videos (e.g. animations of sine waves and pendulums) are stored on this server and are played without the involvement of third parties.
Some pages contain links to videos on YouTube. YouTube is only accessed when you click such a link; from then on, Google’s privacy policy applies.
Some interactive books contain embedded YouTube videos. They are only loaded when you click “Video laden” (load video) and are then played in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Only then is data (including your IP address) transmitted to Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, and possibly to Google LLC in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (adequacy decision of the EU Commission, Art. 45 GDPR). The legal basis is your consent given by the click (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, § 25 (1) TDDDG). More information: policies.google.com/privacy
6. Contact by email
If you send me an email, I process your address and your information only in order to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (answering enquiries) or Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR if the enquiry concerns a thesis or a course. Emails are deleted once the enquiry has been dealt with and no retention obligations apply.
7. Links to other websites
This website contains links to offers of other providers (e.g. data sheets, videos). When you click on them, you leave this website; the respective provider is responsible for data processing there.
8. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to withdraw consent with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3)). An informal email to the address above is sufficient.
Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): Where data is processed on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation.
Right to lodge a complaint: You can lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, e.g. the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia, Kavalleriestraße 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany, www.ldi.nrw.de.
